"Nobody teaches you the business side. You learn it one late invoice at a time."
I've been a freelance photographer and filmmaker in Dubai since 2018. The shooting side I learned on set. The business side I learned the way most freelancers do: by finding out what I should have agreed in writing, after the fact.
It's rarely dramatic. It's an invoice that slips from "next week" to "next month". A client posting the photos before paying for them. A "quick change" that becomes a third round of edits. A shoot cancelled the night before, after you've turned other work down. A brand asking to use your images in a paid ad campaign you never priced. Each one is small. Together, they decide whether freelancing pays.
Over the years I built a system to stop that from happening: clear terms before the work starts, paperwork that looks professional, and documents that answer the awkward questions for me. These templates are that system, cleaned up so any photographer or filmmaker can make it their own.
They won't turn a bad client into a good one. But they make sure everyone agrees on the same thing before anyone picks up a camera, and that you have it in writing when it matters.
A deposit before any work starts, the balance before files are released, and clear steps if a payment is late.
Contracts · Invoice · Email scriptsClients can review the work, but they can't use it until the invoice is settled. Paid ads, exclusivity and RAW files are priced separately.
Contracts · Creative briefChoose whether you can show the work, and charge a licensing fee if the client wants it kept private.
Contracts · Second shooter agreementSigned permission from everyone on camera and every private location, with a parent or guardian section for minors.
Model release · Location release · Call sheetIncluded revisions, a review window, and a friendly script for quoting extra changes instead of doing them for free.
Contracts · Email scriptsNotice periods, kill fees and rescheduling fees, so a last-minute cancellation doesn't wipe out your week.
Contracts · Location releaseWord, Excel and PowerPoint files you can change completely: wording, numbers, layout.
Everything you replace is highlighted, and each file starts with how to set it up.
Spreadsheets calculate totals, tax, deposits, progress and profit as you type.
Filled in for a realistic shoot, so you can see exactly how each one is used.
These templates were built and tested in Microsoft Office desktop apps: Word, Excel and PowerPoint, 2019 or Microsoft 365, on Windows or Mac.
Other apps can usually open the files, but they may not support the formulas, dropdowns, clickable tick boxes, highlights or print settings the templates rely on. Please check you have Microsoft Office before buying. Compatibility issues in other apps aren't covered by our refund policy.
When you buy, you receive a licence to use the templates. You don't buy the copyright.
Each purchase is licensed to the name you enter at checkout. Every file carries that name and a unique order identifier.
The templates are a starting point, not legal, tax or financial advice. Laws differ between countries, so have a local professional review them before relying on them.
Straight after payment you'll get an email with your receipt and a download link. The files are personalised with your licence name, so allow a few minutes.
Yes. Use them for as many clients and projects as you like. What you can't do is sell or share the templates themselves.
Yes, with Microsoft Office for Mac (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Apple's own apps (Numbers, Pages, Keynote) may not support all the formulas and features.
They're written to work internationally, with placeholders for your jurisdiction, currency and terms. Laws differ, so have a local lawyer review your finished version once before you use it.
Because the files are delivered instantly and can't be returned, sales are final once the download is delivered. If a file is faulty or won't open in Microsoft Office, contact us and we'll fix or replace it. See the refund policy.
If a template is corrected or improved, previous buyers can request the updated version free of charge.
